2023-4-5 Voiceover Considerations with AI
Because artificial intelligence regenerative AI machines are being used to create some of the background and object imagery for the animated series, I thought it would be interesting to consider using AI for the voiceovers as well.
At first, I researched murf.ai and revoicer.com, but found that neither of them really offer the variability I’m looking for in an animated series dialog. Sure, they may be fine for narrative texts and instructional videos, etc, but when it comes to authentic inflections and emotions, nothing really beats the range of a human being’s natural voice.
Respeecher.com is so far looking like the best solution because it uses AI to convert the sound of a human voice into a different voice, but it’s more expensive. That is, it goes off of the actual audio track instead of a written text. The other options will take an audio file for use in their AI voice options, but it’s really just converting the audio file to text and then implementing their voice options. With respeecher.com, it is not converting the audio to text, but analyzing the audio and applying the filters that were designed for the different voices to make them each unique.
If I move forward with this approach, it means that other producers will also start moving away from professional voice actors and perhaps just hire one to do all the voices but then apply AI to create the variations. This unfortunately means less work for voiceover actors.
As can be anticipated with the use of artificial intelligence in all sorts of segments of industry, less humans are actually needed - hello Universal Basic Income.
