In this freeze frame from scene 12 in episode 1, Rex is with President Truman and other influentials during the signing of the Manhattan Project documents.

The undertone is that Rex is helping humans with nuclear technology but also for his own benefit. As humans tend to do, they utilized the technology for reasons not initially intended. We all know how that played out in the 1940’s.

Bear in mind it’s not coincidental that there were many UFO sightings during that period, with the notable crash at Roswell, New Mexico.
